SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. (February 3, 2025) – Sundt’s Renewables Group has partnered with rPlus Energies and other stakeholders to fund $375,000 in scholarships to support Emery County and Carbon County students through the Local First and Energy First Scholarship programs. These scholarships, created in partnership with Utah State University Eastern (USUE), are designed to provide educational opportunities within the students’ communities and the energy sector.
The Local First Scholarship supports Emery and Carbon County students who plan to remain in the area after completing a degree or certificate from USUE. The Energy First Scholarship is for students pursuing degrees in energy-related fields, with qualifying programs including Welding, Wildlife Ecology, Electrician Certification, Heavy Machinery Operations and more.
“Our team at Sundt is excited to partner with rPlus Energies on the Green River Energy Center project,” said Renewables President Tom Dodson. “In addition to advancing clean energy options for the region, we are able to give back to the local community in a meaningful way. These scholarships align with Sundt’s broader mission to invest in communities and bring prosperity to the places where we live and work.”
The Green River Energy Center is a combined 400-megawatt solar electric generation and 400-megawatt battery storage project. This project will generate approximately 500 construction jobs, providing Emery County with increased tax revenue, enhanced public services and long-term energy sector employment opportunities.
Applications for the Spring 2025 semester are now open through https://www.usu.edu/scholarships. To qualify, students must be admitted to Utah State University Eastern. Scholarships of up to $5,000 are available, and students may reapply each year.
