DALLAS (January 11, 2022) – Sundt Construction recently hired Nicholas Shumate as a senior estimator in its Transportation Group in Dallas-Fort Worth.
“Nick has already proven to be an asset to our team in Texas,” said Bruce Bacon, Sundt’s preconstruction manager for its Transportation Group in Texas. “Over the past 10 years, Nick has had extensive experience in transportation projects, particularly in the earthwork and grading scopes of work. His grasp of technology, field experience and work ethic makes him a great addition to the estimating group.”
Before joining Sundt, Shumate assisted on numerous transportation projects for other construction companies, including a proposed 240-mile high-speed rail project in Texas where he held the position of scope design coordinator and estimator responsible for $1 billion of pursuit scope. Other notable projects include site work for an LNG Industry plant along the Texas gulf coast and two $1 billion design-build projects in the Metroplex. Shumate started in the field as a foreman working his way up through the ranks of field engineer, estimator and then served as a project engineer on a $40 million dam modification for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Shumate graduated from Pittsburg State University with a bachelor’s degree in technology and construction management.
Sundt has been instrumental in transforming the skyline of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex – from Reunion Tower in the 1970s to the more recently completed 7th Street Bridge. Both projects employed new construction techniques that saved time, reduced costs and put Sundt on the map as one of the country’s most innovative builders.
