PORTLAND (March 5, 2021) – Briana De Kalb has joined Sundt Construction, Inc., as a project engineer for its Transportation Group in Portland, Ore. She will be a member of the team for the Interstate-5 (I-5) Rose Quarter Improvement project.
“We’re excited to bring Briana back to our team,” said Dustin Murphy, Senior Project Manager for the Transportation Group. “She served as field engineer on our Sellwood Bridge project and will be a great addition to our Rose Quarter improvement team.”
With over five years of experience, De Kalb brings a unique skill set to her new role. Before joining Sundt, she served as a civil project engineer and designer. She worked on civil site layouts, grading, drainage, erosion control and utilities for plan sheet production in the Northwest and Northern California.
De Kalb also served as field engineer on the award-winning Sellwood Bridge project, constructed by Sundt and joint venture partner Slayden Constructors. Completed in 2016, the Sellwood Bridge project included replacing the original structure with a wider bridge to accommodate growing traffic volume. In 2018 the project won a prestigious AGC Build America Award – the industry’s top honor – for excellence and quality.
De Kalb’s extensive experience working with public and private sector clients, including the Oregon Department of Transportation, Multnomah County and Portland Bureau of Transportation, will be a great asset to Sundt’s new project in the Rose Quarter corridor.
This past summer, Sundt and its joint venture partner Hamilton were awarded the I-5 Rose Quarter Improvement project. Over several years beginning in 2022, the team will add auxiliary lanes and shoulders to reduce congestion and improve safety on I-5. By design, the project will smooth traffic flow on I-5 between I-84 and I-405, where three interstates converge, creating a bottleneck.
De Kalb earned her bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Oregon State University and recently passed the professional engineering exam and has applied for her Professional Engineer license in Oregon.
