TUCSON (Sept. 8, 2017) – The Sundt Foundation recently awarded a $1,500 grant to The Shyann Kindness Project to purchase backpacks, school supplies and toys for local children.
“Thanks to the generous support from the Sundt Foundation since 2010, The Shyann Kindness Project continues to make an impact in our community by teaching about kindness and putting big smiles on the faces of the underprivileged and/or medically fragile children that attend our Kindness Events by providing them with books, toys and needed school supplies,” said Shyann Kindness Executive Director and Co-Founder Sandy Rosati.
Shyann Kindness has helped more than 22,000 children in the Tucson community since it was founded in 2006.
The Sundt Foundation awarded $22,000 in grants to 12 Tucson nonprofits during its third quarter disbursement.
The foundation awards grants quarterly to area charities that support disadvantaged children and adults. Nonprofits are selected through an application process and reviewed by a committee of Sundt Construction, Inc. (www.sundt.com) employees.
$3,000 Award
Outdoor Adventures for Wounded Veterans takes 12 Wounded Warriors on a trip to San Carlos, Mexico for two days of deep sea fishing and relaxation. The veterans have a chance to spend time with each other and reflect on their progress in life.
$2,500 Award
South Tucson Lions Charities works with school districts in the disadvantaged areas of Tucson to screen children for vision and pay for exams and glasses for those who can’t afford them. The club will screen 30,000 children this school year and, on average, 6,000 will be referred to an optometrist.

Benson Area Food Bank has a program for the approximately 150 kids per month in the child food box, family help and community-at-large programs. Approximately 50 percent of children in Benson are living below the poverty level.
Community Food Bank enables hungry children to take home food each weekend designed with their needs in mind — all food is child-friendly, shelf-stable and highly nutritious. During the 2017-18 school year, the Food Bank will partner with more than 20 high-need schools to reach more than 1,600 children throughout Tucson.
Robles Community Support supports veterans through its AZVeteran Resource Center programs. AZV assists veterans with a variety of needs such as food, paperwork, benefits, advocacy, homelessness, education and job support.
St. Luke’s Home is an assisted living community serving low-income seniors who would otherwise not qualify for assistance. They are not sick enough for state help, not wealthy enough for private care and not well enough to live alone. The support helps assure that the organization can provide nutritional meal choices that support good health as food costs rise.
Timothy Tuition Program helps provide jackets and shoes for kids in foster care programs.
Tri-Community Food Bank provides food for underserved families in the rural community of Mammoth.
$1,000 Awards
Aviva Children’s Services provides school uniforms and shoe vouchers to children in foster care. The program serves close to 400 children a year who attend elementary and middle schools that require students to wear uniforms.
The Felicia Ann Cutler Farm’s mission is to improve the quality of life of the homeless and needy in Tucson. Felicia’s Farm partners with Casa Maria Soup Kitchen, which serves between 500 and 800 people every day, all very low income and some homeless. The support will allow the farm to purchase four 15 gallon trees, including fruit trees and perennial plants, and install irrigation.
Tucson Clean and Beautiful’s Youth Achieving Resources Development Skills program helps participants who are 15 to 17 years old and referred to the program through the Pima County Juvenile Court system. Two nine-week programs offer participants professional training in landscape maintenance, land stewardship, personal development and life skills.
