Sundt Foundation Golf Event Raises $55,000 for ALS Research

 |  Press Release

2017 Phoenix CheckPHOENIX (May 31, 2017) – The Sundt Foundation raised $55,000 for the ALS Association at its annual Mike Gaines Phoenix Charity Golf Tournament at the Legacy Golf Resort.

Funds raised included a generous $25,000 donation from The John and Alice Powers Foundation, of Powers Steel & Wire Products.

The Sundt Foundation has championed this special fundraising effort since 2001 in honor of Mike Gaines, who was a Sundt employee-owner for two decades before losing his life to complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

May is ALS Awareness Month. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Research is still being conducted to determine the risk factors for ALS, and the disease is incurable.

The annual Mike Gaines events, including golf tournaments in Tucson, Phoenix, San Diego, Sacramento and San Antonio, and a skeet shoot in Tucson, have raised more than $1.7 million. All of the money raised has been donated to the ALS Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association to be used for ALS research.
