SACRAMENTO, Calif. (March 4, 2019) – The Sundt Foundation awarded $5,000 to Interfaith Ministries of Greater Modesto, Inc., to support their Feed Modesto Pantry. The program provides over 40,000 children throughout Stanislaus County with healthy food to meet the gaps in nutrition left by EBT shortfalls, poverty, parental incarceration and insecure housing.
“[We are] thrilled to be able to use the grant funds to provide nutritious food, including fruits, vegetables, grains and protein sources in our Feed Modesto Pantry, the first ever healthy-food-only pantry,” said Elizabeth M. Wight, CEO of Interfaith Ministries of Greater Modesto and the Feed Modesto program. “These funds will help provide an emergency supply of groceries to low-income families in Stanislaus County, where 24 percent of children face poverty and food insecurity.”
The Foundation awarded grants to three additional local nonprofits during its first-quarter disbursements. First-quarter grants also include:
Pediatric Dental Initiative of the North Coast, Inc., which received $2,500, maintains a sustainable dentistry resource that serves low-income children in Northern California with safe sedation for treatment of severe tooth decay, regardless of their ability to pay, and will provide prevention education and promote oral health to families.
City Year Sacramento received $2,500 to build democracy through citizen service, civic leadership and social entrepreneurship by uniting young adult AmeriCorps members to serve for a year in low-performing schools.
Roseville Home Start, Inc., received $2,500 to provide transitional housing and crucial supportive services to children and their families in order to end the cycle of poverty.
The Sundt Foundation awards grants quarterly to area charities that support disadvantaged children and families. Nonprofits are selected through an application process and reviewed by a committee of Sundt employee-owners.
