Sundt Foundation Donates Nearly $200,000 to Valley Charities

 |  Press Release, Sundt Foundation

TEMPE, Ariz. (May 26, 2020) – The Sundt Foundation donated $100,000 to aid five Valley nonprofits to address the increased need due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Matthew’s Crossing, Aster Empowered, Midwest Food Bank, Chrysalis and Community Alliance Against Family Abuse each received $20,000 in relief aid.

“So many are hurting during this pandemic across the Valley,” said Cathie Gabriel, the Sundt Foundation’s Tempe region board member. “Our employee-owners wanted to support the most vulnerable during these uncertain times. Being able to support the community where we live and work in this kind of way is very gratifying for all of us. Sundt made an additional $200,000 available in April to provide COVID-19 relief. Half of that ($100,000) stayed in the Phoenix Valley and the rest was distributed to nonprofits in other cities.”

Because of the recent unemployment, many in the Valley are experiencing food insecurity during this pandemic. Matthew’s Crossing and Midwest Food Bank remain open and are providing food distributions. Matthew’s Crossing has temporarily relocated to provide drive-through food distribution.  Aster Empowered Meals on Wheels program is a lifeline for home-bound older or disabled adults in Mesa.

Due to the stay-at-home order, many places have seen a rise in domestic abuse. Chrysalis continues to focus on helping individuals and families break free of relationships riddled with fear and violence and discover confidence, resilience and hope during these uncertain times. Likewise, Community Alliance Against Family Abuse services remains available to survivors of domestic and sexual violence during the COVID-19 crisis.

The Sundt Foundation additionally awarded $93,552 to numerous organizations across the Greater Phoenix region as part of its regularly quarterly grant cycle. The United Food Bank and the ICM Food and Clothing Bank received $10,000 each. Additional grant recipients include Foster Your Future, Arizona Cancer Foundation for Children, Arizona Career Pathways, Helen’s Hope Chest, Dress for Success Phoenix, East Valley JCC, Will2Walk Foundation, Mountain Park Health Center, Women 4 Women Tempe, Inc., Arizona Helping Hands, AZCEND, Gabriel’s Angels, Treasure House, Neighborhood Ministries, Inc., Diana Gregory Outreach Services, Soldier’s Best Friend, Mercy Housing Southwest, Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona, Upward for Children and Families and United States Veterans Initiative.

The Sundt Foundation awards grants each quarter to area charities that support disadvantaged children and families. Nonprofit recipients are selected through an application process and reviewed by a committee of Sundt employee-owners.
