SAN ANTONIO (July 21, 2017) – Addressing the root causes of homelessness was made a little easier for Haven for Hope thanks to a recent grant from the Sundt Foundation. 
Sundt delivered a $1,000 check to the organization as part of its quarterly grant awards. Five other area nonprofits also received Sundt grants.
“People experiencing homelessness are living with a multitude of losses, including the loss of a home, employment, economic security, family, health and personal security,” said Kenneth L. Wilson, President and CEO of Haven for Hope. “Haven for Hope is a critical safety net when someone becomes homeless in our community. The journey to transformation requires a support system. This is why Haven for Hope offers a comprehensive system of care including case management, education, job training, counseling and more services. The support from the Sundt Foundation and Sundt’s generous employees will help us to address the root causes of homelessness and to provide individuals and families with resources that will promote self-sufficiency and independent living in permanent housing.”
The Haven for Hope mission is to offer a place of hope and new beginnings. In order to address the individual needs of the homeless, Haven collaborates with more than 137 partner organizations to provide more than 300 comprehensive services on a 22-acre one-stop campus. The nonprofit serves more than 1,800 people daily.
Additional grant recipients:
$2,500 Recipient
The Children’s Shelter provides a safe haven for child survivors of abuse, neglect and abandonment in Bexar County. The organization provides emergency shelter and therapeutic residential treatment for children in crisis and helps them find permanent homes through treatment foster care in addition to parenting programs and a mental health clinic for children.
$2,000 Recipient
Guardian House protects children of divorce, separation or family conflict by providing monitored exchanges, supervised visitation, parenting education and counseling.
$1,500 Recipient
SRG Force Sports offers structured programs that enhance the development of children and youth through the power of sports. The organization’s after-school program is designed to help students develop academically, physically and as community members through homework assistance, volunteering and sports instruction. SRG also runs a community revitalization program.
$1,200 Recipient
City Year San Antonio supports high school students who are at risk of dropping out and works with schools by leading events and activities and providing in-class support for teachers. City Year helps students stay in school through attendance monitoring and engagement, socio-emotional one-on-one support and one-on-one tutoring and after-school programs to help students succeed in math and English.
Junior Achievement of South Texas is dedicated to educating students about financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship through experiential, hands-on programs.
