EL PASO, Texas (December 22, 2021) – The Sundt Foundation awarded $8,000 in grants to three El Paso-area nonprofits during its current giving round. The University Medical Center (UMC) Foundation of El Paso received $2,000 to purchase two blood warmers for the emergency room.
“The Sundt Foundation is committed to constantly improving El Paso,” said Joseph Riccillo, the Sundt Foundation’s El Paso region board member. “We were more than happy to donate to the University Medical Center Foundation so that they can continue to provide incredible care.”
These units will give UMC the ability to treat critical care patients faster. Blood is refrigerated to protect the cells from being damaged and needs to be warmed before it can be used for patients. These devices are essential for patients who require a quick blood transfusion to maintain homeostasis within their body.
“These are some of the most important devices in a hospital when treating patients with blood loss,” Riccillo added. “Being able to provide money from the Sundt Foundation to help save lives is something all of our employee-owners can get behind.”
Other grant recipients include the El Paso Child Guidance Center, which received a $4,000 grant and the Junior League of El Paso was awarded a $2,000 grant to bring awareness for mental and physical health to the El Paso community.
The Sundt Foundation awards quarterly grants to local El Paso charities that support disadvantaged children and families. Nonprofits are selected through an application process and reviewed by a committee of local Sundt employee-owners.
