SAN ANTONIO (May 27, 2020) – The Sundt Foundation donated $16,000 to aid three San Antonio nonprofits to address an increased need due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The San Antonio Food Bank received $10,000, and both the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter and the Children’s Shelter received $3,000 in relief aid.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused distress for many across San Antonio,” said Terri Pasley, the Sundt Foundation’s San Antonio region board member. “Our Foundation board made a swift decision to donate $200,000 in relief aid to over 20 nonprofits across our nine geographic markets, including three here in Bexar County.”
In mid-April, 10,000 cars waited hours for food at the San Antonio Food Bank. Usually, the food bank will feed about 60,000 in the region annually. “Across the nation, people saw the long lines of cars waiting for food at the San Antonio Food Bank. Our committee felt strongly about supporting the increase in need and we take comfort in knowing that our donation will provide roughly 70,000 meals,” Pasley added.
Both the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter and Children’s Shelter continue to provide a haven for women and children across Bexar County.
“We are grateful to partner with the Sundt Foundation for the COVID-19 relief efforts here in the San Antonio area,” said Jessi Fasola, director of philanthropy operations for the San Antonio Food Bank.
The Sundt Foundation additionally awarded $16,000 to five other organizations across Bexar County during its regular quarterly grant cycle. Grant recipients include: The Rainbow Senior Center, Texas Diaper Bank, Joseph Thomas Foundation, Voices for Children of San Antonio and Respite Care of San Antonio, Inc. Each received $3,000.
The Sundt Foundation awards grants each quarter to nonprofit organizations that support disadvantaged children and families. Grant recipients are selected through an application process, then reviewed by Sundt employee-owners within their local giving area.
