EL PASO, Texas (December 31, 2019) – Sundt Construction, Inc. recently celebrated the completion of its renovation work on the Chelsea property, a Housing Authority of the City of El Paso (HACEP) residential community.
“We’re proud of this project and all of our work with the Housing Authority of the City of El Paso,” said Joe Riccillo, project director and El Paso region leader. “Chelsea is an example of our team’s relentless dedication to building spaces that improve people’s quality of life. This property will now provide older adults in our community an updated place to live safely and independently for years to come.”
The $20 million project consisted of renovating an existing 10-story low-income apartment building and associated cottages. Now complete, a total of 199 units were renovated with additional improvements made to the corridors and first floor, as well as the renovation of 131 cottage units. The construction manager at risk project started in December of 2017. El Paso’s Wright & Dalbin Architects, Inc. served as the architect of record.
The renovation of Chelsea is part of HACEP’s initiative to revitalize all affordable housing communities in its portfolio throughout El Paso, using funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Rental Assistance Demonstration program. This is one of Sundt’s eight projects with HACEP. Teams are currently working on renovating Blue Flame, Sun Plaza, Tays and Sherman properties.
Over the past 10 years, Sundt has completed over a billion dollars in project work in the El Paso region. Currently the company is in the process of building Phase 1 of Eastside Regional Park, part of the city’s Quality of Life bond measure. Sundt has offices in El Paso, Fort Worth, Irving and San Antonio and has completed over $3 billion dollars of work throughout the Lone Star state.
