“As a country, we stopped promoting the trades as a career pathway many years ago, and as a result, we’ve created intense competition for talent,” Haag said. “We find ourselves with a multitude of work and not enough skilled workers for the industry. A construction career in the skilled trades offers the opportunity to work with your hands, support your family and advance your career.”

The Coalition for Career Development is a national coalition of business, education and government organizations. The group seeks to work collaboratively with education, business, government and nonprofit organizations to help individuals become career literate and career ready by identifying best practices, conducting research and evaluation and the development of innovative programs.

NCCER is a leader in construction education and training, providing standardized and accredited training in more than 70 craft areas. Sundt Construction is an NCCER accredited training unit and assessment center.

Haag is a passionate advocate for education and workforce development, particularly with regard to the construction trades. Under his leadership, Sundt has created and implemented several workforce development programs that are serving as models for the industry. These include establishing Sundt’s Center for Craft Excellence, forging an innovative educational partnership with Central Arizona College and developing pathways for Sundt’s craft employees to achieve mastery of their skills through NCCER training and certification.
