SAN DIEGO (August 15, 2022) – Sundt Construction completed the site modernization of San Diego Unified School District’s Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary School in Southeast San Diego.
“The completion of this project is an exciting time for us and every child that attends this school,” said Mike Casey, Sundt project executive. “The modernization of the school allows students to learn in a more comfortable and stimulating environment.”
Sundt demolished most of the existing campus and constructed five new buildings containing 29 classrooms totaling over 46,000 square feet. The expansion includes a special education center as well as a new administrative building and health center. An outdoor amphitheater was constructed alongside the school’s new athletic courts and turf soccer fields. Additional renovations were made to the cafeteria, library, hallways and sidewalks.
Construction was strategically planned to align with the school’s schedules. Delivery and heavy equipment were scheduled to not conflict with drop-off and pick-up hours, and noisy equipment was paused during student testing.
