MERCED, Calif. (July 1, 2016) – Sundt Construction, Inc. (www.sundt.com) joined students, faculty and staff of the University of California (UC), Merced on June 22 to celebrate the grand opening of the university’s new Classroom and Office Building 2.
Sundt served as the construction manager for project, which included construction of a new 77,000-square-foot building designed by architect Solomon Cordwell Buenz and represents Sundt’s third project for UC Merced.
The new building features general assignment classrooms with seating for more than 700 students — who are already scheduled for fall 2016 classes — and aligns with the school’s mission of delivering sustainable, high-quality projects that exceed user goals, enhance the campus environment and advance the teaching, research and public service capabilities of the university.
In addition to the classroom lecture halls, the building will also house dry laboratories, offices and other support spaces.
Sundt’s additional work for the university includes the Stem Cell Instrumentation Foundry in 2010 and the LEED Gold-certified Social Sciences and Management Building in 2011. As a leader in education construction throughout California, Sundt has worked on many notable projects, including the University of California, Davis Veterinary Medicine 3B Building; University of California Berkeley Clark Kerr Campus Renewal; and San José State University Spartan Complex Seismic Upgrades.
