Sundt has been selected by the City of San Antonio as the general contractor for its first design-build road improvement project. The $62 million project will widen part of Hausman Road from two to four lanes while adding five bridges, a center median, left turn lanes, curbs, driveway approaches, drainage improvements, traffic signals, flood control measures, water quality systems and utility upgrades. For non-vehicular traffic, there will be new sidewalks, bike lanes, and hike and bike trails throughout the corridor. The design-build team also includes URS Corporation (URS) and Civil Engineering Consultants (CEC).

“Sundt is proud to lead such an important road improvement project in the San Antonio community,” said Sundt Senior Vice President and Texas District Manager John Carlson. “When this project is complete, the new Hausman Road corridor will not only improve area traffic; it will also enhance the quality of life for local residents through flood control measures and hike and bike trails.”

Sundt is recognized as a national transportation construction expert, having completed more than 200 design-build projects. The company is currently constructing two other major heavy civil construction projects for the Texas Department of Transportation: the West Seventh Street Bridge in Fort Worth and the Trans Mountain Highway West Loop 375 project in El Paso.
