Odessa, Texas (June 11, 2024) – Sundt Construction officially broke ground on segment 2 of the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) IH-20 Improvements project. The $237.9 million project will reconstruct a 5.1-mile stretch of IH-20 in Odessa, Texas, part of the vital energy sector corridor.
“This project will redefine safe travel for Texans through Odessa and Midland,” said Sundt Area Manager Mark Soyster. “Once complete, IH-20 will be transformed to three lanes in each direction with continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) allowing for smoother, safer travel and increased capacity through the corridor.”
The 3.5-year project from JBS Parkway to CR1300 on IH-20 is the first of a $1.35 billion program of five major projects slated to rebuild IH-20 from Odessa through Midland, Texas over the next 10 years. Along with adding lanes, the project consists of four bridge structures, grading, cement-treated base, flex base, hot mix asphalt, retaining walls, drainage, signs, signals, ITS and illumination.
In Texas, Sundt has over 50 years and $3 billion of project experience, with offices in El Paso, Dallas and San Antonio. The company is currently working on the City of San Antonio’s Broadway Street improvements and Zona Cultural Street Improvements. In Austin, Sundt is building the $477 million 183 North Mobility project with joint venture partner Archer Western and constructing Dam 101 as part of the Lake Creek Flood Mitigation Projects. Work is also underway at Lake Placid and Lake McQueeny in Seguin, Texas where Sundt is replacing existing dam gates and making structural modifications to the spillway structure.
