EL PASO, Texas (December 18, 2024) – Sundt Construction’s newest project for the Texas Department of Transportation will improve traffic flow from the New Mexico state line to south of El Paso. The contractor was recently awarded Phase II of the I-10 Widening project through El Paso.
Phase II is a 4-mile stretch of the I-10 corridor, stretching from the New Mexico state line to Westway and Vinton. The $120 million project includes reconstructing the highway from four lanes of asphalt to six lanes of continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) and includes seven bridges, grading, retaining walls, drainage and an intelligent transportation system (ITS). The project ties into Sundt’s current project, Phase 1 of the TxDOT I-10 widening.
Phase I of the project broke ground in May 2022 and widens I-10 for 7.5 miles from Westway and Vinton to Mesa Street. It also includes asphalt replacement to CRCP, additional lanes, a new overpass and replacement of 25 bridges.
During the past decade, Sundt has completed billions of dollars’ worth of construction in the El Paso region, including two award-winning projects for the Texas Department of Transportation—I-10 Connect and GO-10. The firm also recently completed the Eastside Regional Police Command Center and the Mexican American Cultural Center and is working on two projects for the University of Texas, El Paso. Sundt is also in preconstruction for two projects with El Paso Water. The company has offices in El Paso, Dallas and San Antonio.
