CHARLOTTE, NC (May 7, 2024) – Sundt Construction has been awarded the general construction for the mechanical and electrical process systems installation for the LOTTE grassroots aluminum manufacturing facility in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Sundt will self-perform the mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation for the project, employing nearly 200 trade professionals for the work. Once complete, the facility is projected to produce 36,000 tons of cathode foil, a type of ultra-thin aluminum foil used in electric vehicles. Cathode foil is one of the four major components of lithium-ion batteries.
Sundt’s history in the Southeast dates back more than 50 years. Some of the firm’s notable area landmarks include Launch Pad 39A at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, where NASA first launched U.S. astronauts into space, and the concrete core of One Atlantic Center in Atlanta, Georgia built using an innovative “slipform” technique pioneered by Sundt and later used all over the country. The company is currently working on the KR Harrington and Omohundro Water Treatment Plants in Nashville, Tennessee.
