Sundt Apprenticeship Program Honored as Exemplary Program

TEMPE, Ariz. (December 9, 2024) – Sundt received the 2024 Exemplary Program Award, construction category from the Arizona Apprenticeship Advisory Committee. The prestigious award recognizes a program with exceptional contributions to the advancement of apprenticeships in Arizona.

“We’re honored to accept this recognition,” said Sean Ray, vice president of craft workforce development. “Our apprenticeship instructors and staff are dedicated to the development of a skilled workforce. They work diligently to equip tradesmen and women with the skills they need for a prosperous career in the industry.”

Sundt’s apprenticeship programs and partnerships have continued to evolve since 2017. All programs utilize the National Center for Construction Education and Research’s (NCCER) nationally recognized curriculum in heavy equipment operation, concrete technology, pipe fitting and heavy equipment technicians. Earning regular wages throughout the program, graduates receive credentials through the NCCER and a Certificate of Apprenticeship from the state in which they completed the program

In addition to in-house programs, Sundt has established partnerships with local organizations, high schools, community colleges and universities. These programs bring local talent on board, with the goal of hiring 50 percent of apprentices directly from pre-apprenticeship partnerships across Sundt’s regions.

Sundt opened its G. Michael Hoover KAPBCS Training Center in 2023 as part of its investment in workforce development and training. The KAPBCS Training Center is comprised of hands-on lab spaces, advanced tools and equipment for training and state-of-the-art conference rooms and a large auditorium.
