Sold-Out Charity Golf Tournament Raises $31,200 for ALS Research

 |  Press Release

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 9, 2017) – Golfers from the construction community and 15 veterans from the Wounded Warrior Project teamed last month to raise $31,200 for ALS research at the annual Sundt Foundation Mike Gaines San Antonio Charity Golf Tournament.

“We are grateful to the community for their continued support in fighting ALS,” said Senior Vice President and Texas District Manager Eric Hedlund. “We were also glad to be able to sponsor a group of Wounded Warriors again this year. These veterans have our deepest respect and appreciation.”

The Sundt Foundation has championed this special fundraising effort since 2001 in honor of Mike Gaines, a Sundt employee-owner for two decades before losing his life to complications from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

More than 6,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with ALS each year, and the average life expectancy is two to five years, according to the ALS Association.

The annual Mike Gaines events, including golf tournaments in Tucson, Phoenix, San Diego, Sacramento and San Antonio, and a skeet shoot in Tucson, have raised almost $2 million. All of the money has been donated to the ALS Association or the Muscular Dystrophy Association to be used for ALS research.
