Project Overview
Sharp Grossmont Hospital is the largest hospital in San Diego’s East County, serving communities such as La Mesa, El Cajon and Santee. The campus is the largest not-for-profit, full-service, acute-care hospital serving the area. Sundt constructed an additional five-story, 163,620-square-foot wing with a partial basement for this critical facility.
The facility included a new emergency department, a new CCU floor, three shell floors for future expansion, new utility tunnel, partial basement and upgrades to the chiller plant. Because the new addition was connected to the existing hospital, the Sundt team focused on interfacing between the existing hospital and the new project. It was key that we focused on infection control procedures where new met existing and performing our work in a way that did not disrupt ongoing facility operations. When the new facility was completed, Sundt remodeled the hospital’s post-anesthesia care unit (PACU).
