Project Overview

Sundt constructed a 130,000-square-foot Innovation Center at Port San Antonio, a large technology and innovation campus just southwest of downtown San Antonio. The large technology and innovation campus is a state-of-the-art facility that features multiple components, beginning with a 3,200-person multipurpose arena on the building’s southeast side. The arena boasts a massive 60-by-20-foot media wall, eight Tesla coils, and reconfigurable seating to host up to 4,000 people at a time. It is designed to host e-sports tournaments, concerts, product launches and large training programs.

Other components include a new home for the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT), a showroom to demonstrate technological innovations, and a large 24-hour electronic gaming area and full-scale food hall. The facility also features a “maker space” laboratory, which provides scalable space and prototyping/fabrication equipment to support universities, startup ventures and mature industry sectors in their collaborative research and development efforts. Technology integrated throughout the facility gives it global reach. The teleconferencing systems allow for greater collaboration among public and private research entities. The building is also equipped with broadcasting capabilities to stream entertainment and other content developed at the innovation center in real time to audiences that number in the millions.
