Project Overview

This project, adjacent to the original buildings, added 282 beds in 127,321 square feet to accommodate upper-level students who want to live on campus. The project consisted of four, three-story dormitory buildings that contain two- and four-bedroom apartments. Sundt was also responsible for site development and utilities.

To help ensure the quality of the project, Sundt worked with our subcontractor partners to develop two sets of mock-ups. The first, a mock-up of the exterior wall system, which was used to review window installation, stucco application, flashing details and color selection. The sample wall was also tested to ensure the waterproofing system was installed properly. Sundt also mocked up one of the student suites ahead of the rest of the project, allowing the end user to review cabinet layout, fixture locations, finishes, etc. The mock-up helped identify that the student closets were limited in space due to planned built in furniture and a change was made to provide shelves in lieu of full built-in cabinets.

Through attention to quality and schedule, Sundt was able to deliver the first two buildings two months early, which allowed the university to provide housing to 114 students in time for the spring semester.
