Project Overview
Sundt completed multiple additions and upgrades to the Miraval Resort in Tucson, a top-rated, all-inclusive destination resort and spa, now owned by the Hyatt Corporation. We initially constructed 16 luxury, contemporary guest suites and upgrades to the Body Mindfulness Center. Following this phase, Sundt was asked to return to complete 16 freestanding villas, five duplex villas, and an expansion of the spa and yoga facilities. Sundt ensured that the resort remained fully operational throughout the expansion, making guest experience and communications with resort personnel our top priority, while accommodating several client-requested changes and additions to the scope.
The project was constructed using sustainable approaches and traditional desert materials including rammed earth, glazed hand-cast tiles, and adobe. Exteriors of the single-family villas feature insulated concrete formed (ICF) walls, which create an extremely efficient thermal shell. Keeping in context with the boutique property’s mission of maximizing their impact on guests while minimizing their impact on the land, construction operations were planned to minimize disturbance to the surrounding desert landscape. Open-air guest room showers, private hot tubs, and extensive outdoor amenities complete the retreat experience. The Villas at Miraval are certified LEED Silver®, and the property is consistently ranked as one of the world’s top destination resort and spas by travel and lifestyle publications.
