Project Overview
Sundt served as Construction Manager to complete a pair of new two-story, 48,000-square-foot classroom buildings on the Miramar College campus. Each building features multiple state-of-the-art “smart” classrooms, common areas and office spaces.
The Arts & Humanities Building includes smart classrooms equipped with computers and audiovisual and multimedia equipment. It also features a 60-seat lecture theater, a recording studio and studio space for drawing, painting and ceramics. The Math & Business Building features smart business classrooms, computer labs, a 3,000-square-foot mathematics lab and office space for faculty and staff.
The complexities of working on an occupied and growing campus, and addressing special owner considerations, pushed our project team to solve problems in a creative and timely manner. Our extensive coordination with campus personnel helped to ensure the safety of the students and faculty and to maintain proper access to buildings. We paid close attention to the academic calendar, accounting for increased traffic and critical testing periods. Also, with other contractors performing work on and around our site—including major utility work—we had to meet frequently with multiple parties to coordinate their work with ours while maintaining our aggressive schedule.
