Sarah Clapper recently joined Sundt as a Talent Acquisition Specialist. She is a longtime Arizona resident, moving to the state with her family from Gainesville, Florida when she was a child.
She supported herself through four years at Arizona State’s WP Carey School of Business, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in marketing and tourism management. She held several internships through school, including with the National Hockey League’s Arizona Coyotes and Target.
Sarah brings experience recruiting and headhunting in the construction industry to her position. She recently sat down to answer a few questions about her new job and favorite activities.
Why did you choose to work for Sundt?
It combined my two favorite areas: recruiting and construction. Sundt has an incredible reputation within the industry and with that it brings 126 years of experience and knowledge. I am very excited to be an employee-owner who can help contribute to one of the most important parts of the business, “Our People.” Recruiting is almost like a puzzle – studying the shape, color and size of a puzzle piece and then locating the perfect fit can be challenging and very rewarding. I absolutely love communicating with candidates from all over the world, learning about their experience, passions and goals and connecting them to the perfect opportunity.
What are you looking for when recruiting future employee-owners?
I am still learning a lot about the talent acquisition processes and recruiting approach but so far I have learned that we are looking for individuals who are invested in becoming employee-owners for the long run. We are not looking for quick hires or short-term fixes; Sundt values its people and every hire is a strategic one. The team has been extremely welcoming and helpful during my onboarding the last couple weeks. I’m excited to be a part of the already awesome team.
Cat person or dog person?
Dog person 100 percent. The minute I have a big enough yard I’ll be getting an Australian Shepherd to join me on my hikes and runs.
Where do you like to travel?
I have an equal balance of love for the city and outdoors. During most weekends through the summer you can find me up in northern Arizona hiking, exploring and beating the heat! The rest of the year, I hike in our local urban parks. But I also love to explore new cities, learn about different cultures and try local cuisine. For the remainder of the year I’ve also got a couple trips planned – to visit friends in Chicago, wedding in Vancouver and my Dad’s art show in Denver.
Have you seen a good movie or read an interesting book lately?
Recently watched “The Revenant.” I thought it was a fantastic movie. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time and enjoyed the great scenery and special effects. Any movie with Leo DiCaprio is automatically a favorite in my book!
