Meet Nic Chavez, a new addition to the Sundt team. Nic is a modeling engineer specializing in Building Information Modeling (BIM) at our Tempe office. He will be responsible for utilizing new technologies to ensure the timely completion and cost effectiveness of projects. (Learn more here). We asked Nic a few questions recently to get to know him better:
If you could build anything, what would you build?
I would have loved to be on the London Bridge project. It’s not every day that you get the chance to help someone achieve the audacious goal of moving an architectural icon halfway around the world to create a tourist destination in the middle of the desert!
When you’re not at work, how do you spend your time?
You’ll probably find me at the gym, on my bike, swimming, rock climbing, doing yoga, hiking, snowboarding, or horseback riding. I’m pretty game to try any kind of physical activity if I’m not already an avid practitioner. Now that I live in the capital of golf I’ll probably be picking up a 9 iron again, when the temperature drops below oven degrees, of course.
How do you alleviate stress?
When things start getting a little too crazy and I need to alleviate stress, I always find myself cooking. There is something so amazingly therapeutic about the process of taking whatever random ingredients I have hiding in my cupboards and combining them into a delicious meal to share with family and friends.
If you weren’t in construction where would you be?
I’d be enjoying a Cirque du Soleil show – from up in the air, not in the seats.
What’s your goal for your new position?
My goal is to help Sundt become the known leader in our industry through the use of innovative construction technologies. I hope to work on projects that inspire others to build better, dream bigger and live a higher quality of life.
