CameronHaag

We’re pleased to announce that Cameron Haag has joined Sundt as a field superintendent in our San Diego, Calif., office. Cameron is responsible for managing day-to-day construction activities, as well as planning, selecting and hiring the manpower required for the efficient execution of work.

Prior to joining Sundt, Cameron worked as the assistant superintendent on the $117-million Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center project near San Francisco. Cameron holds a Bachelor of Science degree in construction management with a minor in real property development from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

We recently asked Cameron a few questions to get to know him better.

What drew you to Sundt?

There were a few reasons I was drawn to Sundt: great people, large projects that provide ample challenges, acquiring lots of new work in California, and the ability to participate in the Employee Stock Ownership Plan.

What are your primary job responsibilities?

As a field superintendent, it’s my responsibility to make sure that the work in the field is done in a timely, safe and cost-effective manner.

What are you working on right now?

The new Corrections Corporation of America East Otay Mesa Detention Center near San Diego. I’m supervising the underground/site work scopes.

What would you be doing if you weren’t working in the construction industry?

Automotive design/engineering. I’ve always had a fairly high mechanical aptitude and interest in cars, but zero interest in thermodynamics or fluids so that wouldn’t pan out too well!

What’s the best movie you’ve seen recently?

I recently watched “Zero Dark Thirty.” It documented how Osama Bin Laden was captured. The technology the U.S. military used to catch him was pretty impressive – stealth helicopters, extremely accurate satellite surveillance, and let’s not forget the red-blooded American attitude to never give up!

What’s the most unusual project you ever worked on?

I built a chemical plant for Dow Chemical on the California delta. It had a dock that received barges of salt from Chile. The salt was unloaded into large storage areas and then run through a series of chemical processes in the plant to convert it to household bleach that was then tanked away in trucks.

Where would you most like to travel?

Europe! I hope to cross that off my list after this project!

How do you like to spend your free time?

I have an interest in health and fitness, so I spend some of my time weight training. I also have a 2008 Mustang, which I am in the process of modifying. In the near future I would like to get involved in real estate.

Best advice you ever received?

Measure twice, cut once! Applicable in all facets of life!

Is there someone who has had a profound influence on you?

My high school welding/auto shop teacher, Mr. Cowan. He was a big believer in being calm and collected when solving problems, taking pride in your work, and always having a safety-conscious attitude.
