TEMPE, Arizona (Sept. 29, 2017) – Sundt President and CEO G. Michael Hoover has been named Chairman of the company’s Board of Directors effective Oct. 1, 2017. Hoover, an industry veteran with nearly 40 years of experience, was named President of the 127-year-old general contractor in 2015 and CEO in 2016. He replaces J. Doug Pruitt as Board Chair. Pruitt will remain on the Board as an outside (non-employee) member.
Hoover began working for Sundt in 1978 while completing his mechanical engineering degree at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He joined the company fulltime soon after graduation and went on to advance through several roles including project engineer, project superintendent, project manager, senior project manager, manager of the company’s Transportation Group and chief operating officer before becoming President and CEO.
A former chairman of the Highway and Transportation Division of the Associated General Contractors of America, Hoover is active in several community and industry associations including Greater Phoenix Leadership, the Construction Industry Round Table, the Beavers (a national heavy civil organization), the University of Arizona Foundation National Leadership Council, Expect More Arizona and the American Cancer Society.
Hoover is a firm believer in giving back to the construction industry and the people and communities it serves. Since assuming Sundt’s top leadership role, he has spearheaded the development of a new strategic plan that emphasizes the company’s purpose: “to build environments where our clients, employee-owners and communities prosper.” In 2017, he led the company across the $8 million mark in donations made to nonprofit organizations serving disadvantaged children and families.
