TRANSIT RAIL

COMMUNITY FIRST

Reliable modes of public transportation are integral to the success of our cities and the people who live and work in them.

Sundt understands the history of our transit system and leverages our expertise and constructs projects that meet the needs of ridership and residents, boosting the economic prosperity of the area in the process. Successful transit rail projects rely on expertise in every construction need, from foundations to utility relocations, drainage management and minimizing disruption for motorists, residents and businesses. We prioritize genuine and creative collaboration with all stakeholders to build and deliver a project that has everyone’s best interest in mind.

“Working along a main street lined with small business, you’re affecting so many people’s lives and livelihoods. We meet frequently with business owners and community leaders and get to know them on a first-name basis. This not only helps in planning the more intrusive scopes of the work, but it assures the community we are there to listen to them and do whatever we can to make the construction process as livable as possible.”

— Chris Elison, Senior Project Manager, Sundt Transportation Group

in Economic Development with Valley Metro

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: VALLEY METRO

Over the last 18 years Sundt, with joint-venture partner Stacey and Witbeck, has built more than half of the initial 20-mile track of the Valley Metro Rail system, line sections 4 and 5, the Northwest Extension Phase I, and a maintenance and operations facility.

As a 2020 recipient of a Build America Award of Merit in Highway and Transportation, the Gilbert Road Extension continued Sundt’s relationship with Valley Metro, adding 1.9 miles to an existing 26-mile light rail system, two new stations, and one park-and-ride with a transit center. The project has the first four-legged roundabout in the U.S. to incorporate a train and saw new innovations in in storm water pollution prevention (SWPP). Beyond this, the team prioritized forming close-knit relationships with impacted stakeholders, including businesses and residents.
