Tell us about your favorite KAPBCS moment.
My most recent KAPBCS moment would have to be the things the Southwest Region of Transportation has accomplished over the last couple years. In almost every measurable category, the entire team has truly lived up to KAPBCS. Through contributions from the entire team of employee-owners, from business development to preconstruction and into operations, their contributions have put us in a position that we will almost double in revenue next year and then the following year we will almost triple from where we are today.
Why did you choose to work in the construction industry?
I went to college for engineering but knew that I most likely wanted to end up in construction. Upon graduation I worked for a small civil engineering company and within a month my initial instincts around wanting to get into construction rang true. Sitting in a cubicle, in a very quiet office, doing engineering work was terrible. The workdays took forever, and I would just look outside wishing I had the opportunity to be involved with how things got built. Based on a resume that I had sent to Sundt at graduation, they called. Saved me from the engineering world and here we are 25 years later. One of the best decisions of my life.
Share a couple of your favorite hobbies.
I enjoy traveling with my wife, son and daughter. We try and take a nice trip or two each year. Our trips could be a plane flight to someplace new or just getting away in our RV. My daughter loves musical theater, so I enjoy watching her on stage, and my son is an avid golfer. I really enjoy getting out and playing with him, even though I can no longer beat him.
