Tell us about your favorite Sundt project.

My favorite projects at Sundt are all the projects at the Tucson International Airport. Over the last 22 years I have built most of the airport from the original terminal expansion, remodeling the concourses, relocating the checkpoints, upgrading the chilled water system, upgrading the electrical systems, installing all the baggage carousels to completing two hangars. I have had the pleasure of getting to know the wonderful folks at the airport over the years, and it has been a pleasure to serve them.

What movie or television character do you relate to most and why?

John Henry Holliday (Doc Holliday)—Val Kilmer’s version. I have always been fascinated with his history and the way he lived his life from being a dentist to Tombstone and finally his resting in Glenwood Springs Colorado. I also named my boat “Dock Holiday.”

Why did you choose to work in the construction industry?

My grandfather was in the construction world; he was actually a welder and heavy equipment operator. He welded in the shipyards, building ships during WWII. The stories he told got me kind of interested. Then, I started welding at 15 and worked my way through college as a carpenter and heavy equipment operator. When I started college I started out as Pre-vet, but I am allergic to animals so that didn’t seem to be a good fit. I found the construction management degree and so it began.
