Tell us about your favorite KAPBCS moment.
KAPBCS moments come when you are working with your teams and the expectations are set, the roles and responsibilities are clear, and they execute a task or operation without your direct involvement. Watching our employee-owners succeed is what it is all about.
Tell us about your favorite Sundt project.
The ADOT US 60 Superstition Freeway design-build project. We widened 12 miles of freeway by adding travel and auxiliary lanes, along with a dedicated HOV flyover ramp connecting to I-10. The project was designed, built and opened to beneficial occupancy in 16 months. It was completed in 2003, and we still have folks from the project working with Sundt in various leadership roles.
Why did you choose to work in the construction industry?
My father was in the industry, which played a role in the process. During college, my part-time job was driving as a courier for a bank. The route back to the distribution center went through the I-10/I-17 interchange as it was being rebuilt as a five-level system interchange. Watching all the equipment and coordination required to build the multi-phase project was awesome.
Share a couple of your favorite hobbies.
A couple of my hobbies center around mountain biking on the great trails here in the PNW. The other is coaching a youth mountain bike team. Riding with them on the trails helps them develop the skills and endurance to become confident student athletes.
What is your favorite place in the world?
Being outside and enjoying all of what Mother Nature provides us.
