Tell us about your favorite KAPBCS moment.
My current favorite KAPBCS moment was coming full circle and receiving the call that we had been awarded the UTEP Advanced Manufacturing and Aerospace project. We spent some time winning the trust of the university and establishing ourselves as trusted advisors, so that call is a definite highlight. The project also led to teaching at UTEP, which was surreal because my father was a professor at the school for over 20 years of his career.
Why did you choose to work in the construction industry?
To me it seemed the construction industry chose me. I had been interviewing for electrical engineering positions both at Hewlett Packard and JPL, where I had spent a summer during college. After spending a whole day at JPL and interviewing in multiple departments, I didn’t like the working environment cubicle that seemed to be at every office (and it was really quiet). I chose to not work in that environment and out of desperation (months later) took a job designing low voltage systems for an electrical subcontractor. After a few years I took a position with a general contractor working as an electrical QC on a federal project. I was totally hooked after that. I learned scheduling and ultimately acquired my master’s degree so I could understand everything about accounting and financials and how it impacted project management.

I love audio books and learning about the brain, building anything (furniture, guitars and most recently, a watch!), working out and spending time with my boys. I also love to listen and play (as horrible as it may be) music!
