Tell us about your favorite KAPBCS moment.
It would have to be the 3-D laser scanning our team conducted on the renovation of two existing office towers for the CPS Energy Headquarters Renovation Project. The two towers, originally built in the early 1970s, totaled over 510,000 square feet and required the complete removal of all exterior skin and total interior demolition. After completion of the demo phase, our team laser scanned the entire structure to validate the as-builts from over 40 years ago. This use of frontline technology allowed us to ensure the renovation design was seamlessly coordinated with as-built conditions and allowed reuse of an existing asset, providing a modern headquarters facility for San Antonio’s publicly owned utility provider, with the added benefit of updating the San Antonio skyline during a time of revival for its downtown area.
What movie or television character do you relate to most and why?
Jimmy Stewart in “It’s a Wonderful Life.” He’s a relatable guy, who tries to do the best for those around him. He faces true adversity, but ultimately comes to realize the impact he has on others and especially his family, which makes him appreciate his “wonderful life” even more.
What is your favorite place in the world?
My family farm. It’s been in our family over 120 years.
Why did you choose to work in the construction industry?
I love seeing the tangible impact the projects we build have on our communities. We build the places people live, work, learn, and play, so it improves many lives in a very direct way. I also value working with the people in our industry. There is a hard-work ethic, fueled by innovative problem-solving, that is on display every day.
