In May, Sundt’s Craft Workforce Development celebrated two graduating classes of Sundt apprentices in the carpenter and heavy equipment operator programs. After completing the two- and three-year programs, respectively, our graduates were recognized for their dedication to their craft. During the ceremonies, they shared their career aspirations and heard from Sundt leaders.
Sundt’s in-house workforce development and industry partnerships have seen huge success, creating a national model for firms to help rebuild the talent pipeline. We provide opportunities for our employee-owners to learn, grow and embody Sundt’s core values of quality, safety and innovation. Our craft training and apprenticeship programs utilize the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) standardized curriculum.
“We honed skills in the apprenticeship program that we don’t always have the time for in the field. Now, I’m coming out of the program with experience and confidence. I’m excited to keep learning.”—Dustin Miller, Heavy Equipment Operator Graduate
At the May 12 carpentry apprenticeship graduation, Vice President and Concrete Division Manager Danny Gumm spoke to the graduates about his career journey, highlighting the value of apprenticeship programs when he first started in the industry. “The final destination in your career requires a solid foundation,” Danny said. “Place value in your journey and remember that nothing replaces experience.”
On May 19, the heavy equipment operators celebrated their graduation, led by Craft Training Instructor Earl Sperry. Earl worked closely with these apprentices throughout their journey and commented on how invaluable programs like these are to our industry. “I’m proud of this group of apprentices and of the way Sundt implements our apprenticeship programs so that they’re accessible for our craft workforce.”
Anthony DeLomba has been with Sundt for six years and joined the heavy equipment operator apprenticeship program three years ago. “Companies like Sundt invest in your training and want you to progress. Graduating from the apprenticeship program is just one of the ways to level up your skills. I want to change the perception of what a career in construction looks like and encourage more people to take part.”
