SALT LAKE CITY, Utah. (March 7, 2024) – The Associated General Contractors (“AGC”) of America, Utah Chapter has awarded the Appaloosa Solar I project in Cedar City, Utah with the honorable distinction of “2023 Energy Project of the Year.”
According to the AGC of Utah, “This project signifies a notable addition to the renewable energy landscape, making optimal use of advanced solar technologies.”
“We are pleased the Appaloosa Solar I project has been named 2023 Energy Project of the Year,” said Tom Dodson, President of Sundt’s Renewables Group. “Projects like these support green jobs and provide low-cost, reliable renewable power to Utah residents.”
Sundt, along with partner BHI, began construction on the 240-megawatt (MW) dc / 200 MW ac solar facility in late 2022 and completed work just over a year later in December 2023. The facility entered commercial operation in January 2024 and, in its first year of operation, is expected to generate enough clean energy to abate approximately 395,000 metric tons of carbon emissions.
“We are incredibly honored to have partnered with Sundt Construction on the Appaloosa Solar I project,” said Shan Miller, Senior Vice President of Renewables for BHI. “The AGC of Utah’s 2023 Energy Project of the Year award emphasizes our shared dedication to advancing solar energy and environmental sustainability.”
Appaloosa Solar I was developed by rPlus Energies and is majority-owned by an investment vehicle managed by Greenbacker Capital Management.
